Boston Celtics form Bog-3, Cleveland Cavaliers reset their point guard spot
Rumors that the Cavaliers hope to go in a different direction have been swirling for a while now. Sexton was their best player this past year, but by jumping up in the lottery, they might be able to seamlessly part ways.
The Cavs lucked out by getting the third pick in this year’s draft. This puts them in a perfect position to draft Jalen Suggs or Jalen Green, the consensus third and fourth-best players in this year’s draft.
Suggs, a point guard, and Green, a wing, would both be prime candidates to replace Sexton in Cleveland’s offense. It also allows them to pursue trade opportunities this offseason.
With this deal, the Boston Celtics would be adding a third young stud to pair with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Though he didn’t put up great assist numbers in Cleveland, the overall thought process is that it was because there was no one to pass to.
In Boston, Sexton would be able to dish out passes to the likes Tatum, Brown, Robert Williams, and more. The fit might not be the best at first glance, but as the saying goes, you get the talent and figure it out from there.
Sexton would need a contract extension at the end of next year, so worst-case scenario the Cs trade him at the deadline.
Best case scenario, they have a big three for the future.
