Through all the commotion, injuries, quarantines, losses, and wins, Boston Celtics fans kept their eyes on what the TPE would birth, hoping it could salvage an already sunk ship. At the deadline, Ainge acquired Evan Fournier from the Orlando Magic for two second-round picks. Still, Fournier was only making $17 million at the time, leaving $11 million left on the TPE.

As the Celtics have approximately two more months until it expires, that value stands, which leaves Stevens and his employees with a decision. Who should they look to obtain with the remaining $11 million?

I will offer a few names, but first, let’s talk about what skill set the Celtics should be looking to get with this TPE.

Boston needs reinforcements in the frontcourt, on the wings, and in their backcourt. They have the stars; they need guys to support them. With Walker now in OKC, the C’s are better off trying to patch the holes in the wing and guard department.

However, with the departure of Kemba, the Boston Celtics will have the MLE at their disposal, which they could use on a multitude of guards this off-season, the most popular and practical name being Patty Mills. That leaves Boston’s wing corps, but if everything goes the C’s way, they will have Fournier, Langford, and Nesmith behind Tatum and Brown. It doesn’t sound like they are too thin there.

So, if all their depth is positionally sound, does that mean the TPE will go to waste?

No, even with Horford, Patty Mills, Fournier, Langford, and Nesmith, Boston will still need to use that TPE. Their shooting will still be a problem, and their depth up front will still be shallow. They will be short on passers and rollers. Here are a few guys that could patch a few of those holes.
