Boston Celtics free agent wing option No. 3) Justin Holiday

With the Pacers facing eternal mediocrity or a long-term rebuild, Justin Holiday could be on the move for cheap if Indiana decides to shift course. After signing a 3 year $17 million contract with the Pacers last summer, Holiday backed up his paycheck with some impressive shooting numbers.

He converted on a career-high 173 three-pointers and shot the second-highest percentage from the 3-point line in his career at 38.2%. Holiday shot 38% on 5.2 catches and shoot 3-pointers per game and overall maintained a 57.1 TS%.

He’s not a flashier scorer, passer, or lockdown defender but he can stroke it from beyond the arc and play competent defense which is all the C’s could ask for. The Pacers have not named a price for him, but if I had to guess Boston would have to forfeit minor draft capital and possibly one of their lower-tier young guys. It all depends on what the Pacers’ management wants to do with the franchise moving forward but if I had to guess I would not bet on Holiday getting traded.

The Boston Celtics need to prioritize landing at least one of these guys, ideally two of them. They desperately need their floor spacing and in Torrey Craig’s case, their defense. This group of wings would free up the Celtics’ books while providing a massive lift off the bench for the Celtics in the regular season and playoff time.

Brad Stevens has never been keen on playing young guys so there’s no reason to believe the next Celtics’ coach will be either. It’s crucial Stevens gives his successor what he’ll want which are wings that have proven themselves. These guys fit the mold and should be heavily pursued despite not being household names.
