Boston Celtics free agent wing option No. 1) Torrey Craig

If you don’t know a thing about Torrey Craig I highly recommend you go back and watch the Nuggets-Trail Blazers series from 2019. Craig is a lockdown defender that specializes in on-ball guard defense.

He uses his strength, length, and lateral quickness to wall off smaller guards and has succeeded in doing so at the highest level. He is an average 3 point shooter, hitting 36.8% of his triples this season, and is a very good offensive rebounder.

Craig makes the hustle plays and will likely demand $3-5 million a year. He was just traded for cash considerations after all.

Boston Celtics free agent wing option No. 2) Garrison Matthews

If you have ever talked to a Wizards fan, chances are they brought this guy’s name up. Garrison Matthews got the short end of the stick and was essentially benched for Raul Neto. Scott Brooks rarely played him and when he did it was random and inconsistent. He never cracked the rotation no matter what he did and that will likely contribute to him walking in free agency if the Wizards even offer to resign him.

Despite all this drama surrounding his playing time, Matthews has proven he can shoot the ball at a high level. He shot 41.3% last season on 49 three-pointers and 38.4% on 198 three-pointers. Despite an uptick in volume, Matthews sustained elite efficiency, which is good to know since he’ll likely shoot double the amount of threes with Boston as he did with Washington.

Since he was in and out of the lineup and won’t be heavily pursued by the Wizards, Boston can swoop in and pick up Matthews for around $2-5 million for multiple years. He would improve their floor spacing, player movement, and bench production. He is a neutral defender and has no locker room or ego issues.

If he becomes available, it’s a no-brainer.
