Brand new President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens is unafraid of making major changes to the Boston Celtics roster, as evidenced by his blockbuster deal with OKC headlined by swapping Kemba Walker with Al Horford.

That move is likely the first domino of many to fall. Getting off of Walker’s deal was important to Stevens, but so was/is filling positions of need. The center spot was handled with the return of former Celtic that thrived in his time with the team. A backup 5 is also on his way to Boston in NY product Moses Brown.

Now, follow-up deals will likely patch the rest of the holes on the depth chart after the starting point guard spot was vacated.

Will any massive blockbusters go down, though? Like, say, a deal for Zion Williamson?

Chowder and Champions doesn’t seem to think so:

"Unlike Luka Doncic, a trade for Williamson wouldn’t benefit the Celtics in the long run.Basically, all Brad Stevens would be doing is shifting the drama in New Orleans to Boston.  That doesn’t mean the Celtics are as dysfunctional as the Pelicans, but the team would have to provide a much better situation for the rising star."

Tarringo Basile-vaughan is on point here as always, basically pondering why the Cs would potentially trade for a star ego from a guy who hasn’t achieved anything in the NBA postseason.

If anything, Stevens seems to be pushing for familiarity with his latest move to Horford, and also acquired another rim protector in Moses Brown that somewhat negates the need for another guy that likely best belongs at the 5 in Williamson.

Moving Jayson Tatum for someone who hasn’t led a team anywhere yet is a step back for the franchise at this point, no matter how high Zion’s ceiling may seem to be able to reach.

Let the New York Knicks overpay for Williamson after tasting a bit of success for the first time in eight years. The Boston Celtics have internal growth to focus on in the meantime, and that growth got an assist with a move that made the team more familiar to the top two stars.
