Boston Celtics reunion we’d like to see #2: Isaiah Thomas

It has to be time. Isaiah Thomas has to be the next step for the Boston Celtics this offseason. Brad Stevens, this is your moment.

IT is a free agent that hasn’t gotten a look since the New Orleans Pelicans threw him out on the floor amidst a season-long malaise of underwhelming basketball. Even in limited action, Thomas proved that he could still put the ball in the bucket in the Big Easy.

In the nation’s capital the year before, Thomas was a worthy backcourt mate to Bradey Beal and produced a few moments that should have been concrete evidence that he is still an NBA-level point guard.

Now, with Al Horford back in town, Stevens needs to bank on the intangibles with his next roster and continue the personnel shift to former Celtics that thrived with the team and established a winning culture again following the end of the Big 3 era.

For a veteran’s minimum deal–or hell, even a training camp invite–Stevens could right the wrongs of the Danny Ainge era and do right by the PG that had the Cs in the conversation for Kevin Durant in the summer of 2016.

Thomas should return to where he did his best work as well. His reunion with Horford and Jaylen Brown–and potential first-time minutes alongside Jayson Tatum–would give the Boston Celtics fanbase unforgettable memories in 2021-22.

Imagine that first TD Garden ovation for #4 (assuming Carsen Edwards gives up the number)…
