Boston Celtics definite goner following Kemba trade #1: Luke Kornet

Luke Kornet was already looking like someone who had played his final game in Boston following the team’s gentleman’s sweep at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

With Moses Brown now on board, Kornet better start booking flights across the country in search of his fourth NBA home.

Kornet was a surprise for the New York Knicks in 2018 when he played well enough to earn another year in the Big Apple. He didn’t take a significant step from his modest but productive rookie year, and the Vanderbilt product signed a free-agent deal with the Chicago Bulls during the 2019 offseason.

The Daniel Theis trade brought both Kornet and Moritz Wagner to the fold, but Wagner didn’t last even a month before getting the ax. Kornet stuck, and even got minutes down the stretch of the 2020-21 season, but he did nothing to warrant a long-term offer to return to the team.

Kornet would have always nabbed one of the last roster spots, but with two big men now in tow, he is most certainly going to be hitting the free-agent market this offseason.

His next mission is figuring out how to stick with an NBA franchise before playing overseas becomes his only option.
