Boston Celtics: The top 3 candidates to be next head coach
By Jack Simone
Boston Celtics choice #2: A basketball genius and legend makes NBA history
If the Celtics want to hire a coach with extensive playing experience, look no further than Becky Hammon. She spent 16 seasons in the WNBA absolutely dominating her competition.
Hammon was a six-time All-Star, named to two All-WNBA First Teams, two All-WNBA Second Teams, and got her number retired by the San Antonio Stars. She is well on her way to being in the basketball Hall of Fame.
In 2011 the WNBA voted on the top players in league history – Hammon finished fifth. She is the only player in the top ten without a WNBA championship. That just shows how dominant she was.
Hammon has been an assistant coach for the Spurs under Gregg Popovich since 2014. She also recently became the first woman to ever act as a head coach in an NBA game.
She has earned the respect of every single player around the league, and would undoubtedly have the respect of every player in the locker room. She is one of the brightest basketball minds in the entire league.
The combination of her playing and coaching experience makes her one of the lead candidates for the job of the next head coach of the Boston Celtics. It’s criminal how little consideration she seems to have gotten thus far.
