Head Coach Opening #1: Boston Celtics

Although it’s close between them and the Pelicans, the Boston Celtics take the cake for the most appealing head coach opening this offseason. Even though the 2020 campaign was a down performance as a whole, this Celtics team has proven themselves repeatedly, making the conference finals three separate instances this half-decade.

Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are locked up for the foreseeable future as amazing building blocks. They have both shown proficiency in playoff basketball, carrying teams to wins over reputable rosters on multiple occasions. As wing ball-handlers and creators, they are both incredibly valuable.

Kemba Walker obviously had a disappointing season, and will likely be traded in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see what return pieces the Boston Celtics get in return, as he is looked at as a negative value contract around the league. They will need to re-sign Evan Fournier in the offseason, as well as figure out what to do with Marcus Smart, as he’s on the last year of his deal.

The Boston Celtics also have intriguing young talent, with Romeo Langford, Aaron Nesmith, and Payton Pritchard all showing flashes throughout the season. Additionally, Robert Williams is a proven starting NBA center with the potential to be much more, as long as he can keep himself on the court.

The Boston Celtics are in prime position to make it back to the conference finals in the upcoming year, with the potential to accomplish more depending on how the rest of the league shakes out.
