After the Boston Celtics had a disappointing 2020-21 campaign, there needs to be some changes. With Brad Stevens in a new position of power, he has the keys to the franchise, with the responsibility of constructing a more competitive roster around the C’s star power.

Finishing an even 36-36 on the season, the definition of mediocre, Boston underperformed in almost every aspect after making the Eastern Conference Finals the year prior. Although Jayson Tatum carried the team to a play-in victory and a win in the first round, it wasn’t enough, ultimately losing to the Brooklyn Nets in five games.

Nobody was expecting the Celtics to move past the first round once they were set to face the super team in Brooklyn, but Tatum proved his superstar status, scoring 50 points rather easily in a victory. Boston needs to form their roster around Tatum and Jaylen Brown, giving them more support to succeed, which will, in turn, lead to more winning seasons ahead for one of the league’s most storied franchises.

There will be some changes to the Boston Celtics’ roster

Some of these changes may be small, while others may be on a much larger scale, but they will all be impactful nonetheless. These changes have already begun, with Danny Ainge no longer being in the organization. Therefore, the first step to the offseason will be to hire a new head coach, with Brad Stevens taking Ainge’s position.

The Celtics’ depth hindered their growth more than anything this season. When multiple Celtics’ starters went down with injuries or health and safety protocols, the bench was not able to pick up the slack, leading to tough losses. For the Boston Celtics to have a successful 2021-22 season, every player on the team needs to bring something to the table, and be ready to contribute when their number is called. Simply put, that wasn’t the case this season, with a few roster spots being wasted.
