President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens–fresh off of a new promotion from the head coaching position–could have big plans for the Boston Celtics backcourt this summer.

In the days following the C’s first-round postseason elimination, rumors have swirled about what the team may do next after proving all season that their current group is no match for the top of the Eastern Conference.

Most of them have surrounded their starting floor general, Kemba Walker, and long-time Celtic and fill-in point guard/shooting guard Marcus Smart.

According to multiple sources, Walker’s remaining two years and $74 million could be (and definitely should be) shopped by the new front office:

Meanwhile, media members from multiple teams across the league think their team has a shot at landing Smart:

Stevens has made no announcements about the future of the team yet. His predecessor, Danny Ainge, guaranteed only the returns of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, but take that with a grain of salt since he also guaranteed his own return.

All bets are off as to who the Cs could land to star in the backcourt since it seems abundantly clear that at least one of the current PGs is likely a goner.

Based on recent scuttlebutt, there’s a chance these 3 star-level floor generals could be considered by Stevens:

Boston Celtics potential next point guard #1: Damian Lillard

It has taken no time since Damian Lillard’s Portland Trailblazers were eliminated for rumors of a potential offseason deal to surface.

Heading into his ninth year in 2021-22, Lillard may be tired of falling short of a title. He posted a cryptic Instagram post quoting Nipsey Hussle that seemed to indicate frustration with being loyal to a franchise that can’t find the right mix to land him a title.

If the Knicks are getting involved in Lillard talks, so should Brad Stevens. New York has youngsters they can offer in a deal, but Boston can straight up replace him with Kemba Walker while also giving them a former Defensive Player of the Year in Marcus Smart.

In the case of NY throwing a godfather offer, the Cs could always dangle Jaylen Brown to up the ante and surpass any other offer.
