Boston Celtics: 3 explosive scorers Cs could explore adding this offseason
Boston Celtics scoring option #3: Coby White
Bleacher Report recently posted a mock trade that sent Marcus Smart to the Chicago Bulls for a return that included a future pick (2025 first-rounder), Al-Farouq Aminu and 2019 lottery pick Coby White.
While the idea of letting go of Smart will always pierce the feels of any long-time Boston Celtics fan, it is something the fanbase will have to contend with if Danny Ainge sees a chance to improve the team.
Given Kemba Walker’s health status and Smart’s impending 2022 free agency, the Houdini loves the idea of bringing White back as the best player from Chicago.
Now, you may be thinking, why is White listed as an explosive scorer? Well, despite his modest points-per-game averages in his first two seasons, White is a stick of dynamite waiting to be ignited any time he steps onto the floor.
Three times this past season he topped 30 points. With Tomas Satoransky battling for minutes in the backcourt and Zach LaVine entrenched as the starter at the 2, Billy Donovan’s improved Chicago offense still might not bring out the best in the UNC product.
A fresh start might, though. White has a chance to develop into the long-term solution in Boston, and the Celtics front office should be open to that idea if Smart’s and White’s names come up in discussions.
