Boston Celtics target No.4) Cassius Winston, Washington Wizards

The available options for the Washington Wizards weren’t great.

There are a couple of veteran players that may be retiring soon like Ish Smith and Robin Lopez so I decided it would be better to go with someone on the younger side. Cassius Winston is a player on the younger side that doesn’t have a ton of experience in the NBA.

Winston played in the NBA G-League for the Erie BayHawks for the majority of the 2020-21 campaign. He only appeared in 22 games for the Wizards where he averaged 1.9 points in 4.5 minutes of action.

His season high of eight points came against the San Antonio Spurs in a mid-January oputing where he saw 21 minutes in a blowout loss.

As a standout at Michigan State, Winston racked up numerous accolades such as being named Third Team All-Big Ten in 2018, First Team All-Big Ten in both 2019 and 2020 and, easily the biggest honor racked up, was voted in as the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2019.

Winston has shown he can be an end of the bench piece, but a season with the Maine Celtics could prove to be enough to have him even crack the regular-season rotation and be a quality bench player for the varsity team.

His lack of experience would make him eligible for another two-way contract or even a four-year minimum in which the Boston Celtics can send him down and call him up as needed.

He’s not a blockbuster signing by any means but could be a future building block that got overlooked early because of his lack of NBA experience.
