Boston Celtics Free Agency: Pick-a-player in the central division
By Nick Swanson
Indiana Pacers – Doug McDermott
In today’s NBA, when you have the chance to sign a shooter, you sign a shooter. Who better to sign than Doug McDermott?
Dougie McBuckets has made a career out of being a sharpshooter. He knows what he does well and that’s shoot the three ball. The Celtics could use another player that doesn’t need to go out and try to play hero ball night in and night out. The lack of consistent shooting in the 2020 season for the C’s has been their downfall.
One of many factors, the frequency that the Celtics shot themselves out of games in this nightmare of a season was truly incredible. McDermott has one of the cleanest shooting strokes in the NBA and one of the more consistent.
McDermott has never been a me-first player which would greatly benefit the C’s. The ability to make plays off the ball and always have the respect of the opposing team is something that not all players of his considered caliber have the luxury of having.
The lack of offense the Celtics had off the bench could all be solved with his addition. The pure shooting and scoring threat could trot out onto the court with any lineup Brad Stevens could possibly think of and he’ll still be the most efficient and effective scorer out there. McDermott is a low risk and high reward type of free agent because he is the ideal role player in today’s basketball. The Celtics desperately need his help in 2021.
