Detroit Pistons – Saben Lee

It was yet another lost season for the Detroit Pistons in 2020. The bright side for the franchise, they saw many young players play relatively well throughout the year. Jerami Grant took yet another step in his career, Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart all had solid years in the Motor City. One player who never got the recognition he deserved was Saben Lee.

Lee played limited to no minutes in a majority of games in 2020 until around the end of February. He had a couple games where he scored in double figures and really made a difference on the court. Finishing the year with 48 games played, he only started 7 of them. Lee had 3 games in which he scored 20 points or more and a game in which he dropped 19.

His ability to get to the basket is reminiscent of that of young Russell Westbrook or young Derrick Rose. With the Pistons being the Pistons, there’s a chance we could see him walking in free agency. If the Celtics end up being in the market for a point guard, he’ll be a young and extremely cheap option which will allow them to splurge elsewhere.

Lee isn’t necessarily your consistent starter, quite yet but given another half a season of work, he very well could be by the All Star break. Spending some time in the Maine Red Claws could do him some good and he could also be in starting position following the Summer League, should the C’s decide to move on from Kemba Walker.
