Boston Celtics takeaway #3: Jayson Tatum is the clear Cs centerpiece

This season has been a coming out of sorts for Jayson Tatum. He has established himself as a superstar, and one of the premier scorers in this league. Tonight he proved the Celtics have found the player they need to build around by having one of his now-notorious scoring outbursts in a high-stakes postseason-like contest.

Jayson Tatum can drop 50 on any given night, just like he did last night night. Perhaps most inspiring of all was that he stayed aggressive, he took the ball to the basket, and never settled, as evidenced by his 17 of 17 mark from the free throw line.

At the very least the Boston Celtics have the 1st requirement for any team hoping to pull off a first round shocker, and that is a superstar player.  Most Celtic fans likely already believed that, but tonight served as a confirmation of what fans like me already believed, Jayson Tatum is special.

Regardless of what happens against the Nets the C’s have their superstar and now the onus falls on Danny Ainge to put the right pieces around their superstar. Jayson Tatum could become the greatest Celtic since Larry Bird…but to do that he needs to win championships, and it is up to Danny Ainge to put the pieces around him that gives him a chance to do that.

Good franchises don’t waste superstar talent, and priority number one for Danny Ainge is to make sure he doesn’t waste Jayson Tatum.
