Boston Celtics takeaway No. 3) Goodbye Semi Ojeleye

With the additions of power forward Grant Williams last season and Jabari Parker mid-way through this year, Semi Ojeleye‘s minutes have been drastically cut and he has effectively been moved to the end of the bench.

We at HH have long been under the impression that it’s time to move on from Semi, and with the Boston Celtics sitting so many key players today, this could have been the forward’s last opportunity to prove to Brad Stevens and the team’s front office that he could contribute in the play-in tournament and beyond.

Unfortunately for him, Ojeleye did not take advantage of that opportunity.

He was not effective on either end of the floor and scored just two points on two of six shooting from the floor in a team-low 16 minutes.

I have wanted to believe that Semi Ojeleye could develop into a nice 3-and-D option off the bench for this team, but his shooting has not improved and, if anything, his defensive abilities have actually regressed over the past two seasons.

I don’t see the 26-year-old getting any minutes in the play-in tournament, and it appears as though the Celtics are likely to move on from him in the offseason.
