Boston Celtics: Kevin Garnett thanks Cs in HOF speech
By Nick Swanson
One of the greatest players in NBA history to ever play the “power forward” position and former member of the Boston Celtics, Kevin Garnett, has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He was inducted alongside Tim Duncan and the late, great, Kobe Bryant.
He thanked the Minnesota Timberwolves organization and the city of Minneapolis for his time there before moving on to talking about the Boston Celtics.
Coincidentally, those two teams had just concluded playing in the “Garnett Bowl” earlier in the afternoon. The Cs picked up the 124-108 victory at the Target Center.
Garnett gave the city of Boston and the Celtics organization a shoutout in his speech.
"“I want to thank y’all for an amazing ownership group, Danny Ainge, your vision, Doc Rivers, your leadership, helping me not only be a better player but a better person. I thank you for teaching me.”"
KG also gave a shoutout to his Celtics teammate and future Hall of Famer, Paul Pierce.
"“Paul Pierce, I expect to see you up here next year. Thank you for your continued brotherhood and the brotherhood between us. We’ve been together since about 14, 15.”"
Garnett is a man of many names; KG, The Big Ticket, The Kid. But Celtics fans will remember him by one… champion. Garnett was part of Boston’s big four of the late 2000’s and helped bring the Celtics their first NBA title, back in 2008, in 22 years. Garnett was a five-time All-Star, one-time Defensive Player of the Year, four-time All Defensive Team selection and an NBA Champion as a member of the Celtics.
He’s among the greatest big men in the history of the franchise. And as grateful as Celtics fans are for his contributions to the city, he is just as grateful for every wearing green brought him:
"“All my brothers in the Celtics family, thank you. Celtics nation I love you, I appreciate you.”"
Garnett becomes the 27th Boston Celtics player to be inducted into the Hall where he will be joined by Paul Pierce next year.
