Reason for Boston Celtics fans to be optimistic No. 2) Salary cap situation

When analyzing the current salary cap situation for the Boston Celtics, there are two ways to look at it.

There’s the negative outlook, which is that they don’t have much cap space so they can’t add any top players onto the current roster.

Then there’s the more positive way to look at it, which is that they don’t have the cap space to keep the same exact roster, so changes will most certainly need to happen.

Danny Ainge has even recently hinted that roster changes will be coming this offseason.

Taking into consideration some of the high-cost players the team has (other than Tatum and Brown) on the roster, the Celtics have salary to match for high-level players with high salaries in trades, or to possibly pull off a sign-and-trade with a free agent that wants to join the squad.

Players with decent salaries that could possibly be moved to improve the team are Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, Tristan Thompson, and Evan Fournier in a possible sign-and-trade.

Those players should all net the Cs decent value in return, especially if they are packaged with some young assets, whether that means improving the overall talent level of the roster or improving how the players on the team fit with each other.

Either way, the Boston Celtics have more options than it seems to make moves this offseason.
