In a since-deleted post, Kevin Durant called out Boston Celtics beat writer Jared Weiss of The Athletic for tweeting an insensitive remark about the health of Brooklyn Nets superstars Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

With the story reaching the light of day, tweets have been scrubbed from existence, but the exchange occurred between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm this afternoon.

Durant found a screenshot of the also-deleted post from Weiss via Twitter user and Nets fan @blessingsbackk who called the Boston media “terrible”.

Weiss has since apologized for the Tweet:

With Durant being active on social media, it’s not a surprise he found himself in a Twitter exchange, though it’s shocking he found the post from @blessingsbackk considering the only searchable words in his tweet were “Boston” “media” and “terrible”.

That said, Durant’s call-out (which essentially called The Athletic writer mean) of Weiss elicited a response that likely only furthered the beat reporter’s guilt for misspeaking. Truthfully, his original tweet was misconstrued, as there’s no way he wouldn’t want the chance to see some of the league’s best players compete in the postseason…even if it came at the expense at the team he covers.

In the receipts-obsessed “gotcha” world of Twitter, though, where human decency is often harder to find than snow in the south, his words got him in trouble.

Durant’s Nets are two games behind Philadelphia and a game ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks and sit in the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference. With James Harden looking to return tonight against San Antonio, no matter how many fingers are crossed, the Boston Celtics should expect issues contending with Brooklyn in the postseason.

Next. Boston media could drive Jays away. dark
