Pass the baton to the 2020 Boston Celtics rookies

We know the limitations of the 2019 draft class, with Grant Williams being borderline unplayable against the Miami Heat and Carsen Edwards being deemed unplayable the entire postseason via Brad Stevens not playing him. Romeo Langford hasn’t played in a single minute of playoff basketball and probably won’t this year either considering his current status in the concussion protocol.

The 2020 draft class could craft a dramatically different narrative. With Brown out, Aaron Nesmith could step into a big role if Brad Stevens feels like taking a gamble. Payton Pritchard could also be a beneficiary of newly vacant minutes at the 2.

Kemba Walker has proven capable of coexisting with another floor general during his days as with the Charlotte Hornets playing alongside Jeremy Lin. The duo helped bring the Hornets to a 3-2 lead in the 2016 Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the Miami Heat.

Nesmith has been coming on strong of late, scoring 16 points three times in the past two weeks. He should be the guy Brad Stevens calls upon to fill in for Brown as the starter and primary option at the 2.

Pritchard could use a minute bump as well. This could be a seminal moment for the Boston Celtics rookie class just as three years ago was for what has become the backbone of the team. It’s not now or never for the group, but now would be pretty exciting for the fanbase with little else to lose.
