Boston Celtics: 2 free agents Cs should consider post Jaylen Brown injury

Boston Celtics free agent target No. 2) Isaiah Thomas
I’m sure you guys may be sick of us pounding the proverbial drum for the Boston Celtics to give Isaiah Thomas another go at things with the franchise but, frankly, we simply don’t care.
THAT’s how much we love the man — though, to some, it may be seen as more delusion than anything else.
In all honesty, however, we don’t see a better time than now for the Cs to bring back the likes of IT to where he transitioned himself from being a sixth man within a rotation to a full fledged superstar and MVP candidate.
Injuries, of course, have played a large part in his career over the last several seasons and, in turn, ultimately played a part in his hiatus for the better part of the past year.
However, last month he managed to get another go at things in the NBA, signing a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans where, in limited action, played rather well for a man who hadn’t played professional ball in over a year.
Logging minutes in three total games with NOLA, Thomas found himself averageing 7.7 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 rebounds, with two of his games seeing double-digit scoring numbers.
Of course we’re not suggesting that the point guard was an all out difference-maker during his short stint with the Pelicans this season — though, in the two games played where he logged more than 10 minutes he finished with a +7 and +2, respectively, in the box score.
Still, during his three game stint, he proved to still have the quickness and sound scoring touch that made him a household name in Beantown just a few years back.
Obviously, should he wind up getting that storybook second chanintriguinge Boston Celtics, no one should expect the 28.9 points and 5.9 assists on 38 percent shooting from deep performer that finished fifth in the running for league MVP.
That said, the man still seems to have something to offer in this league and, in a Brad Stevens system, all he’s ever done is thrive.
In possession of a shallow backcourt and an even shallower scoring punch that has now been drained even more with the loss of Brown, taking a chance on the 32-year-old Isaiah Thomas may be a low-risk, potentially high-reward move worth considering by this desperate front office.
At the very least, it would certainly make the play-in tournament and/ or postseason that much more intruiging to watch from a fan’s perspective.
