The Boston Celtics are a team with so much potential and, yet, have seemingly flatlined throughout the majority of the 2020-21 campaign.

After making it to their third Eastern Conference Finals appearance in four years just last season, the expectation was that the team would once again be in the running for the Larry O’Brien trophy, and even received the fourth-best odds of doing so by year’s end.

Fast forward several months later and we find that the Cs have disappointed immensely, as they’ve seen themselves dip under the .500 mark on numerous occasions, and now, even after a six-game winning streak seen a little over a week ago, they are only three games over this aforementioned threshold, boasting a record of 34-31 and are current holders of the seventh seed out in the Eastern Conference standings.

With the star power seen on their payroll, it’s more than shocking to see the team in this position at this current point of the season and now, with many being under the impression that Boston could prove to be a one-and-done outser in the postseason, the upcoming offseason will be a pivotal time period for the front office to try and re-tool.

Unfortunately, however, because of the massive amounts of money already committed to specific players on the team, the Celtics will have minimal wiggle room when it comes to pursuing some of this year’s top-billed star free agents.

Instead, what they’ll likely need to do is pivot towards targeting some more cost-efficient players in an effort to secure a “diamond in the rough” type of asset.

Perhaps a route in which Danny Ainge and co. could wind up taking is pursuing fallen stars who, though perhaps they may not have the same pedigree they once did, could still provide meaningful minutes for the ball club, and could even find a way to tap into their old self.

Today, we present to you 2 former All-Stars the Cs should strongly consider signing this offseason:
