The Boston Celtics had a great chance to keep pace with the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks in the race for the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference but squandered it profoundly in a blowout 125-104 loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

No win is an easy one in the NBA, but beating the Buzz even in their home building without Gordon Hayward and LaMelo Ball is easier without them present.

Alas, the result was not that, and the Cs defense was powerless to the Hornets backcourt. Terry Rozier and Devonte Graham had a combined 20 assists, while the entire Boston Celtics starting lineup had 13.

The loss pushed Boston back into a tie with Miami for the #6 seed, and the Cs could theoretically fall back into the play-in tournament if the Heat can surpass them. That isn’t a radical thing to picture considering the additions made at the deadline in South Beach compared to what Danny Ainge did.

One of Ainge’s additions (Moritz Wagner) has already been replaced, and another (Luke Kornet?) could be on his way out if the Jabari Parker addition continues to be one of the brightest lights on the bench.

Who could be an option for a second unit that is raising the temperature on Brad Stevens’ seat every day?

Hardwood Houdini examines:

Boston Celtics potential late season addition #1: Will Magnay

Will Magnay has not had any bit of a productive NBA career so far, but not many memorable moments happen during a three-minute span unless you’re a Senegalese super-giant by the name of Tacko Fall.

Magnay was productive down in the G-League Lake Buena Vista bubble, though. collecting nine points, five rebounds and two assists per game.

Danny Ainge loves an international big man, and Magnay fits the profile while also possessing advanced frontcourt versatility.
