Boston Celtics: Jaylen Brown wants Terrence Clarke NBA Draft tribute
We have seen several unthinkable tragedies rock the college basketball world this offseason. The latest–Terrence Clarke’s untimely passing in a Los Angeles car wreck–is one that hurt several Boston Celtics players that knew the Boston product personally.
Clarke’s death comes a few weeks after Grand Canyon University’s Oscar Freyer passed away in a car accident in Northern California. It’s been an extremely difficult offseason for the college basketball family after completing a triumphant season that COVID-19 failed to cancel.
Several Boston Celtics players, present and past, sent out tributes to Clarke, who attended several games at the TD Garden the past several seasons.
Jayson Tatum and Javonte Green both shared posts about Clarke on their Twitter pages:
Jaylen Brown his tribute a step further, asking the NBA to honor Clarke during the 2021 NBA Draft by having his named called out:
It isn’t unheard of for the league to pay tributes to prospective NBA players who have had their NBA journey cut short. Isaiah Austin, who was medically barred from the NBA with Marfan Syndrome, was honored in 2014 with a symbolic draft selection.
It is possible Clarke gets the same treatment, and due to his Boston roots, the Celtics could be the team that steps up and makes him an honorary member of the team.
Either way, something should absolutely be done to pay tribute to a man who had the whole world in front of him. A 19-year-old young man with dreams of wearing Celtics green will never get that chance, but his family deserves the NBA world to do its best to make sure his name is never forgotten.
RIP Terrence Clark. Hardwood Houdini is keeping Mr. Clarke’s loved ones in our thoughts during this difficult time.
