Danny Ainge made a gamble last week, and wouldn’t you know, it paid off. Jabari Parker was signed off the free-agent scrap heap to add an extra scoring boost for the Boston Celtics after being released by the Sacramento Kings earlier this season.

Consider the Cs boosted. Parker has poured in 19 points over two games, one of which was a signature primetime Saturday night victory against the Golden State Warriors. The other was an underhanded loss to the Chicago Bulls that saw several players sit out due to varying reasons.

Let’s back it up. Being considered underhanded when both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are present in the lineup is not a good sign. Boston came into this season with hopes of contending against the likes of Milwaukee and Brooklyn (Philadelphia wasn’t expected to be quite this good).

Now, they are dropping games when both All-Stars and their most significant offseason signing (Tristan Thompson) are in the lineup. That isn’t to undermine the absences of Marcus Smart and Kemba Walker either. Clearly, when those two are present, this team wins.

That said, the Parker signing shows that Ainge’s late season veteran free agent additions might do more for the team than trotting out young players that can’t handle that responsibility so early on in their NBA careers.

Hardwood Houdini can’t help but figure out what the next reclamation project could be for the Cs. Here are two immediate roster moves the Boston Celtics should consider before the end of the 2020-21 season:
