Boston Celtics Pick-A-Player: Atlantic Division
By Nick Swanson
Philadelphia 76ers – Mike Scott
There really weren’t a whole lot of options to choose from for the Philadelphia 76ers. It was Mike Scott, Danny Green, Dwight Howard, Rayjon Tucker and Mason Jones. I chose Mike Scott strictly for his shooting.
Yes, in terms of basketball years, Mike Scott is very old. He just so happens to be the youngest of the three that I considered for this spot in the list. Another thing that put him above the rest is his shooting ability.
We’ve seen the incredible rapid decline in Danny Green and Dwight Howard has never been a shooter, so Mike Scott was the easy choice. As players age, they’re forced to develop a three pointer so that way they don’t get swept away as time passes. Scott has always had that and it’s been the thing that has kept him on rosters for so long.
Scott is a career 36 percent shooter from beyond the arch but that is perfectly fine for what the Celtics need. The team’s biggest need is bench scoring. Enter, Mike Scott. He’s not a playmaker, he’s not a defender, he’s a shooter and that’s that. He knows his role on the court and he knows it well, that’s all the Celtics need.
His willingness to give it his all and leave nothing on the floor or in the parking lot of Lincoln Financial Field, Google it, is definitely what this Boston Celtics team needs. Scott could be a spark plug coming off the bench in limited minutes on a smaller scale than what was expected of Evan Fournier.
