With the NBA offseason a couple months away and starting to slowly creep up, its time to start looking towards the offseason and free agency. Free agency is always a crazy time, especially in the NBA…so to embrace the craziness. This is the Pick-A-Player series, Boston Celtics edition.

This “Pick-A-Player” concept is pretty simple. I, Nick Swanson, am being hired by the Boston Celtics right now and Danny Ainge gave me the duties of General Manager for a day. I have all the authority to go out and sign one 2021 free agent from every team in a given division, in this case it’s the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic division. We’re going to start in the Atlantic since that’s the division the Celtics play in.

These are in no way predictions of the players that the team will target in free agency. The players that are featured are just players that I, personally, think the Celtics should go after. There could be various reasons that these players are selected whether that be they would fit alongside the current roster, they fit in the young corps with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, or I think they could be valuable for player development.

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, these signings will be based off the current roster and not any potential trades that could occur in the offseason.

With the Celtics being one of the biggest disappointments of the season so far after almost advancing to the NBA Finals, fans are looking forward to this offseason and a fresh start. With these free agent acquisitions, hopefully the Celtics will be back to their winning ways and will once again be atop the Eastern Conference.

We’ll start with the Celtics and the free agent I think they should re-sign before moving on to the other teams in the division.
