Boston Celtics: 2 Golden State Warriors offseason trades
Why the Boston Celtics do it
With James Wiseman being shut down for the season due to a torn meniscus, the sour ending of an underwhelming rookie season could leave a bad taste in the mouth of the Warriors franchise. Danny Ainge should use that as an opportunity to pry away who many considered to be the most dominant rookie in the 2020 NBA Draft, James Wiseman.
After dominating the AAC in college at Memphis, Wiseman didn’t adjust to a Golden State offense that needed more from him than he was able to contribute in his first pro season. If that’s enough to give up on him, the Cs would do well to scoop him up and have three years of a cost-controlled rookie deal as opposed to one year of Robert Williams before either losing him or paying him plenty.
Why the Golden State Warriors do it
It sounds to the Houdini like Wiseman could be on the trade block this offseason based on what Steve Kerr recently said on 95.7 The Game’s “Damon, Ratto & Kolsky” show (via NBCSN Bay Area):
"“And I know we can further the conversation and say, ‘What about the timeline with Steph [Curry and Draymond [Green] and Klay [Thompson] and what does that mean.’ And those are valid questions. “Can we get James up to speed quick enough to match the timeline with our three core guys? And that’s a great question. And we don’t know the answer. But when you go into a draft and you see someone who potentially is a generational talent, then that’s a decision you have to make.”"
The last time this sort of conversation was had was about D’Angelo Russell, who was promptly traded to Minnesota.
Wiseman could be a hot target this offseason, and if he hits the trade block, Ainge better pursue him hard.
