Why the Boston Celtics do it

Draymond Green is one of the greatest defenders of his generation, and he singlehandedly redefined the center position in the modern age. While Charles Barkley was the original undersized  and rugged rebounding great at the 5, Green sets the table in a way few have ever seen from the center position.

The shine from his game has worn off in recent years as his numbers have declined and Nikola Jokic has further revolutionized the position, but Green can still singlehandedly make an offense run through his ability to seal off screens and find backdoor cutters.

That sort of creativity with the ball would be a welcome sight in an underwhelming Boston Celtics offense. Green could help Kemba Walker find open looks from beyond the arc through physicality in his picks and could serve as a decoy to make defenders hesitate in isolation situations with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

In addition to Green, Eric Paschall provides a presence down low and adds another guy known for toughness to a Cs team that forges its identity in the finesse abilities of its athletic wings.

Why the Golden State Warriors do it

Marcus Smart has long been coveted by the Warriors front office, so such an addition would finally be welcomed as he looks to earn a big payday in 2022.

Aaron Nesmith could flourish in Steve Kerr’s offense while Tristan Thompson could replace Kevon Looney, who could opt out of the final year of his deal.
