Boston Celtics potential imminent cut #1: Moritz Wagner

Acquired at the trade deadline in the deal that officially ended the War on Theis in Boston, Mortiz Wagner has failed to register much of an impact as part of the C’s big man corps.

While his arrival was always seen as one that had the potential to be temporary, there was a hope that the German pivot could outshine expectations and make a dent in the rotation.

Unfortunately, that has simply not been the case.

Wagner has yet to score more than three points in a single contest in green and white, and on only one occasion he’s been able to play more than 15 minutes per game. His impact has been as muted as one could have possibly imagined.

Brad Stevens has only played Wagner once in the last four games, and it was only in meaningless garbage time minutes against the Denver Nuggets in a blowout win.

It’s damning that a player can’t get off the bench even in a season that a team is struggling, and the Theis trade has proven to be more of a salary dump than one that was intended to make the team better right away.

Addition by subtraction was applied to Theis before, and that could be the case once more if Danny Ainge were to cut the struggling Michigan product.
