Conclusion

Ultimately, the Boston Celtics are a top-heavy team and could use for some extra firepower within the rotation, especially off the pine.

Because of this, we at HH kind of view extending an offer to Isaiah Thomas (preferably a 10-day, but could also be a minimum contract for the remainder of the season) as somewhat of a no-brainer.

Look, of course there are some risks with signing the likes of a 32-year-old who has played just three games in the span of 14 months — the already mentioned aspect of taking away playing time from youngsters, messing with a seemingly streaking rotation, and even risk of injury (something we all know is a worry with Thomas) — but Boston is looking to win, and adding a career 18.1 point per game scorer on the low could be a savvy move with a big/ positive impact.

Bringing on “washed up” players and faded stars to title-hopeful teams seems to be something of a fad as of late, with Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge signing with the Nets, Andre Drummond heading to the Lakers, and even Jeff Teague landing in Milwaukee.

Reuniting with Isaiah Thomas would bring more scoring potential to the team’s 29th ranked bench unit, more experience — both regular season and playoffs — to the point guard rotation behind Kemba Walker (something that should be of great importance with his own injury woes), and could even instill a new emotional psyche within the foundation of the team’s core, for two of the C’s top players in Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart still heap public praise onto their former teammate.

All things considered, bringing the King of the Fourth back up north to Beantown could provide a huge spark for this underwhelming team, both with his game and simply his presence.
