This year’s NBA trade deadline was a bit of a letdown for the Boston Celtics, and their fanbase and the media did not relent in their lowly opinions on the matter.

With the fact that the entirety of 2020-21 has been a complete disappointment in comparison to preseason expectations, many saw the deadline as a way in which the Cs could bring on some much-needed extra firepower to help get their rapidly sinking season back on track.

While they did actually wind up making some transactions via trade, most notably the deal that landed them sharpshooter Evan Fournier from the Orlando Magic, the majority of people familiar with the team are under the impression that said deals were not the type of needle movers Boston needed.

Despite their lack of additions to date, however, Danny Ainge and co. still find themselves in a position to bring on some extra talent to the roster this season via the buyout market and, according to the writing staff at Bleacher Report, Beantown could be an ideal landing spot for some of the top available players.

In a recent article discussing this year’s top buyout candidates, writer Dan Favale touched on two former members of the Boston Celtics in Avery Bradley and Kelly Olynyk and penciled in the Cs as one of the best destinations for them to consider.

The argument for Olynyk is quite simple, as the shamrocks could use for more floor spacing and size within their frontcourt. Being he’s 6-11 with a career 36.5 percent shooter from deep, a reunion could be of great service for the Celtics.

As for Bradley, he’d provide some much-needed wing depth as well as quality one-on-one defensive skills and, like Olynyk, can help improve the team’s pedestrian 3-point shooting (shoots 36 percent from deep for his career and is currently converting on 35 percent on his attempts this season).

Though perhaps not the “sexy” names fans were hoping to see come to town, should Boston be able to land one or both of these guys, they’d be bringing on some helpful commodities who are already familiar with the team’s current scheme and style of play.
