Like most in recent memory, this year’s NBA trade deadline was a bit of a dud for Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics.

Despite coming into it with an unparalleled amount of buzz and potential, the shamrocks ultimately opted to play the safe game and, in turn, stayed away from any of this season’s top names to be mentioned on the trade market.

Sure the front office still managed to bring on the likes of veteran sharpshooter Evan Fournier from the Orlando Magic and two floor-spacing fours in Moritz Wagner and Luke Kornet from the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls respectively, but to many, these were not the moves that fans and analysts alike view as true “needle movers.”

However, though nothing close to a blockbuster was executed by the Cs during this year’s deadline, there could still be hope that this disappointing team can either turn their fortunes around during this year’s final 25 game stretch with what they have in tow or, perhaps the more buzz-worthy option, look to make some offseason moves.

While some of us here have already started discussing some offseason trades that could realistically come about, they pale in comparison to the magnitude of Kevin O’Connor’s recent report stating that Ainge and co. could find themselves swinging for the fences by targeting Washington Wizards superstar guard, Bradley Beal.

The Boston Celtics could pursue a blockbuster trade for Bradley Beal

According to a recent article penned by The Ringer’s NBA writer, the Boston Celtics are one of several teams that, according to O’Connor, league sources say could make a run at the 3x All-Star:

"There’s still a real chance Beal stays in Washington for years to come, but as the Wizards rack up losses, teams like the Heat are waiting to pounce. In addition to Miami, multiple league sources say the Celtics, Knicks, and Pelicans are among the teams with interest in pursuing a deal for Beal."

As things currently stand, the Washington Wizards sit in 13th place out in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 16-28. Despite this, however, Beal is finding himself in the midst of arguably his best season as a pro, as he’s averaging a league-leading 31.3 points to go along with five rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game on 49 percent shooting from the floor and 34 percent shooting from deep.

In the past, we here at the site have talked highly about the idea of the shooting guard coming to Beantown, citing his personal relationship with current Cs superstar Jayson Tatum and the simple fact that star power wins championships in this modern-day NBA.

Though these are currently just whispers, as we get closer to the 2021 offseason this will assuredly be a hot topic to follow closely for Celtics and, frankly, NBA fans everywhere.
