Could we see a Boston Celtics-Al Horford reunion?

With ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski breaking the news on Saturday that former Boston Celtics All-Star center, Al Horford, will no longer be in the Oklahoma City Thunders’ plans, it got me thinking. What if Horford reunites with the Celtics?

Woj sent out a tweet stating that Horford is no longer going to be included in the team’s plans and will not be active for the remainder of the 2020 NBA season.

Horford issued the following statement in regards to the news, per Woj.

"“I know what it’s like to be a young, aspiring player, and at this point in the season I understand how important playing meaningful minutes is for their careers and their development… I look forward to supporting the guys who supported me…. When I arrived, I understood the direction of the team, we had a great individual plan in place for me, and I feel like as a result I’ve played really good basketball for the Thunder.””"

Horford is a five-time All-Star and a member of the 2007 All-Rookie Team, 2010 All NBA Third Team, and 2018 All-Defensive Second Team. After spending the majority of his career with the Atlanta Hawks, Horford signed with the Celtics in 2016 and played three seasons with the team.

He had an All-Star appearance in 2017 as a member of the Boston Celtics. With the success he saw in Boston, it makes sense for him to come back. Obviously, since the trade deadline has passed, he would have to be bought out or traded during the offseason.

Horford was a key piece in those Celtics playoff teams and has chemistry with key contributors like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart. Most importantly, he’s shown faith in Brad Stevens and played great under him.

If he were to be bought out before the season ends, he would have no problem adjusting back to the Celtics system and can run the four or the five. With the Celtics stuck in a lull, his return would hopefully provide a much-needed kick in the rear and a shot of adrenaline to a team that so desperately needs one.
