Boston Celtics panic trade to avoid #2: Dealing for a high-priced big man

Several high-profile big men are on the trade block right now, and some are even sitting out games until they are able to find a new home either via a trade or through the buyout market.

Andre Drummond and LaMarcus Aldridge are the two most notable names sitting out after Blake Griffin was finally granted his release from the Detroit Pistons earlier this month. Both big men would be great adds on the buyout market, but neither qualifies as someone the Cs should give up any assets for.

Drummond, in particular, could swing a postseason series if he landed with a contender lacking at the 5 such as the Brooklyn Nets or the Los Angeles Lakers. He is what the Cs need in a nutshell, but as an impending free agent, there’s a level of risk involved with acquiring him assuming Cleveland’s price remains high.

Aldridge, at age 35, is not someone that fits any sort of timeline with the current Cs core. His best landing spot would be a team that sees itself as one piece away from a 2021 title or a team that has a dire need for scoring.

Boston’s need for scoring isn’t dire enough to give up assets for the 15-year veteran. Nor is their need for a frontcourt upgrade great enough to attempt to land Drummond in a trade.
