Not long ago, it seemed certain that the Orlando Magic and Aaron Gordon were set to part ways. That left the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, and (for some reason) Houston Rockets as interested suitors for the departing (or so we thought) tweener forward.

Not so fast, NBA universe.

Apparently, Gordon is having second thoughts. The Houdini is not sure what developments could have transpired to make the former #4 pick change his mind, but apparently, he has, according to ESPN NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarowski on Zach Lowe’s podcast.

Per the Lowe Post Show (transcribed by CBSSports):

"“You mention that trade request that was made weeks ago. Well, I’m told in the last 24-48 hours, Aaron Gordon has had some second thoughts about that trade request, about whether he actually really wants to leave Orlando. But the Magic, their front office, they’ve forged ahead in trying to find a deal for Gordon. … Whatever Aaron Gordon wants right now, I know that Orlando and their front office, they’re gonna do what’s best for them, and that may very well be taking the best package they can.”"

Orlando has struggled in its third season under head coach Steve Clifford, sitting at 14-29 more than halfway through the season after consecutive postseason appearances. That likely led to Gordon wanting to find a new home, considering the team is 5.5 games out of a play-in tournament spot and only 1.5 games ahead of the Detroit Pistons for dead-last in the standings.

The Cs had been targeting Gordon in recent days, and rumors had Aaron Nesmith included in hypothetical deals for the uncrowned 2016 Slam Dunk Champion along with future draft considerations that include both first and second-round picks.

Now, it appears that Gordon doesn’t want a deal to the Boston Celtics…or anywhere at all.

Is it too little too late for the former Arizona Wildcat?

We shall see tomorrow.
