The Boston Celtics have a few not so obvious untouchable commodities in tow

The NBA’s trade season is approaching its bitter end, but for the Boston Celtics, it would appear that their work is only just beginning.

If recent rumors are true, Danny Ainge and co. could soon be picking up the phone and dialing either the Atlanta Hawks or Orlando Magic in regard to the availability of John Collins and Aaron Gordon, respectively.

Though no specifics on what a potential deal would look like have been reported, it’s all but guaranteed that the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will be far away from such negotiations, as they are the team’s only real untouchable commodities.

That said, though these two All-Stars are by far the best talents on the team and, in turn, deserve this aforementioned distinction of being deemed untradeable, we here at the Houdini believe there are a few other assets that this team has that could be argued as falling close to this specific status when it comes to hypothetical trade negotiations.

Here are 3 specific assets the Boston Celtics currently possess that we believe should be bordering on “untouchable” at this year’s trade deadline:

Not so obvious untouchable asset No. 1) 2021 first-round pick

The first asset we feel compelled to list is the C’s first-round pick for this year’s NBA Draft.

Now we understand that more likely than not Boston will wind up in the playoffs this season which, in turn, will play themselves right out of lottery contention. We also understand that this front office has a track record of struggling mightily with late first-rounders.

In truth, we’re not totally opposed to dealing away the picks at some point in the future… just so long as it’s after the deadline, and for a bigger player than, say, Aaron Gordon or Harrison Barnes.

This 2021 draft class is tabbed as being quite deep, meaning that even if the Celtics wound up with, say, the 19th overall pick — where they last found themselves on B/R’s most recent mock draft — they could still easily find a quality young talent in perhaps Usman Garuba, Davion Mitchell, or Ayo Dosunmu, just to name a few.

On the flip side, the idea of not trading their upcoming pick would also allow them to potentially use it in an offseason trade for someone that might not currently be available, which is a situation that this Cs front office is “convinced” could happen, according to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss.

Again, we’re not saying we’re totally against the idea of trading away the team’s 2021 first-round pick. That said, we believe it is something worth keeping past this year’s deadline.
