After months of speculation and buzz, the time is almost here for the Boston Celtics to finally make a decision on what they plan to do in order to get this disappointment of a team back on track.

Coming off of a season where they made it to within two games of reaching the NBA Finals, expectations were through the roof for this shamrocks squad in 2020-21, with Vegas going as far as to give them the fourth-best odds of bringing home the Larry O’Brien trophy come year’s end.

Now, through 43 games played the team boasts a sub-.500 record of 21-22, reside in eighth seed in the Eastern Conference standings, and have not won back-to-back outings since before the All-Star break.

Now, with roughly 48 hours to go till the March 25th trade deadline, fans and the media alike are champing at the bit, waiting on the edge of their seats to see what Danny Ainge and co. opt to do to try and better position this roster for a strong second-half push.

To some, a small move such as one for Evan Fournier could be of great value to the Cs, while others are hoping for something a bit bigger (both literally and figuratively) like, perhaps, a deal for Orlando Magic power forward, Aaron Gordon.

All in all, however, at this point in time there is little known about what moves Boston’s front office will wind up making, which, in turn, could lead up to a bit of a shocking deadline for fans.

Grasping onto this ‘shock’ potential, Bleacher Report recently published an article discussing trades that would warrant such a distinction and, in it, they concocted a 3-team blockbuster including the likes of the Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers, and, of course, the Boston Celtics.

B/R concocts a ‘shocking’ 3-team deal where Lowry heads to the Boston Celtics

The proposed trade:

Citing Boston’s need for a legitimate “floor general”, Toronto’s need to focus on the future, and Indiana’s many different holes, writer Zach Buckley believes that, though this deal would certainly be shocking, it could very well turn out to be beneficial for all three parties — especially for the Cs.

"Lowry is the ideal solution for whatever is ailing Boston, which dropped four of five coming out of the All-Star break. The Celtics are tearing at the seams at both ends, and the six-time All-Star has the toughness, tenacity and two-way talent to get this roster back pointed the right direction. The sky might feel like it’s falling in Boston, but the Shamrocks are only 1.5 games back of the No. 4 seed. Lowry’s leadership, playmaking and support scoring could help them cover that gap in no time. Reuniting with Aron Baynes, meanwhile, would add a stretch element to this center rotation and allow the Celtics to shop another big for perimeter help."

In past trade articles concocted by us at the Houdini, we, too, have brought up the idea of the Boston Celtics dealing for the likes of Lowry. This season, though perhaps a down one in comparison to his previous campaigns, the perennial All-Star is certainly still finding himself putting up impressive per-game numbers.

Through 36 games played, the 34-year-old is finding himself posting 17.6 points, 7.4 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game on 44 percent shooting from the floor and 39 percent shooting from deep.

Again, while Buckley clearly proposed this trade to spice up the conversation as we approach March 25th, we at HH could easily be convinced that a trade such as this — or similar, at least — would help thrust Boston back into the conversation of being a legitimate title contender.
