Boston Celtics trade partner No. 3) New Orleans Pelicans

After finishing five wins short of nabbing the eighth seed in the Western Conference standings last year, this past offseason General Manager David Griffin decided to try and bolster the roster in an effort to better compliment NOLA’s star players in Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.

The most high-profile acquisition they made was in the deal that nabbed them Steven Adams from the OKC Thunder to man the paint and serve as a solid interior presence on both sides of the ball.

Now, through 39 games played, the Pelicans still find themselves on the outside looking in on a postseason spot while Griffin’s attempts at bolstering the roster have not exactly panned out as planned.

Still in the hunt for a top-8 seed, however, the front office is seemingly still looking to make moves to help better their odds of winning in the now.

Daniel Theis, though not the sexiest name in the NBA, could be an addition worth considering for New Orleans.

First off, based on position alone the Boston Celtics big man could step in and help strengthen the team’s rotation down low behind the likes of Adams for, currently, they find themselves rolling out a lackluster unit of Willy Hernangómez, Jaxson Hayes, and Nicolò Melli.

Second, his floor spacing abilities could only prove to be a positive for this 24th ranked 3-point shooting and 19th ranked 3-point converting team, as he’s currently shooting at a 37 percent clip from beyond the arc.

Lastly, his shot swatting capabilities would be an absolute luxury for this team that ranks 28th in blocks per game and that finds no player averaging over .8 blocks on the season.

The Pelicans already have their stars in place for the meantime in Ingram and Williamson. What they should look to do is add more depth that better fits their scheme.

Theis’ two-way style of play could certainly prove to be a plus for this high-aspiring squad.
