Though the All-Star break is now officially upon us, the front office for the Boston Celtics most certainly does not currently find themselves with time to take a rest.

On the contrary, between now and the March 25th NBA trade deadline, we expect Danny Ainge and co. to be quite busy as they try to make adjustments to this disappointing 2020-21 shamrocks squad.

While there are some who believe this year’s deadline will once again be a silent one for the Cs, there are others who are under the impression that Ainge could be up to something and, more specifically, could finally find himself pulling the trigger on a ‘big move.’

B/R believes a trade for Harrison Barnes would help the Boston Celtics

Now, what constitutes the description deserving the moniker of a big move is up for debate, but there are a plethora of moves the Boston Celtics could make between now and March 25th that could easily be seen as beneficial.

Recently, Bleacher Report came up with the idea of Ainge pursuing the likes of Harrison Barnes and Nemanja Bjelica of the Sacramento Kings as a way to bolster the team’s “thin roster.”

The specific trade proposal read as follows:

Citing the fact that both Barnes and Bjelica fit the front office’s desired mold of “shooters with size”, writer Zach Buckley believes this specific move would make Boston a “much harder ” team to handle come playoff time.

"Barnes is better than casual fans think. His contract has been a point of contention, but the criticisms don’t match the eye test. He offers both flexibility on defense and loads of production on offense (16.7 points on 49.2/39.4/82.2 shooting, plus a career-high 3.6 assists). He also has four playoff trips on his resume and a championship ring in his jewelry collection.Nemanja Bjelica is an obvious trade candidate as a veteran on an expiring contract playing for a club well outside of the playoff picture. If the Celtics could bring him in, they’d be getting a 6’10” career supplier of 3.0 assists and 2.0 threes per 36 minutes."

In the past, I personally have not been an advocate of the Celtics pursuing the likes of Barnes.

That said, with the fact that this proposal also includes the big man Bjelica — someone we just discussed as an under-the-radar player to target –, coupled with the fact that the team’s options are seemingly beginning to dwindle by the day, the trade listed above is actually one that seems like a very realistic scenario and one in which we have to now bestow our Houdini stamp of approval to.
