The Boston Celtics picked up a signature win last night over the Los Angeles Clippers that propelled them back up to the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference. While Boston is having one of its worst years since Brad Stevens came along, the Cs are still in the driver’s seat to have a home-court advantage in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

Truly, that’s a byproduct of the parity in the league…if not the collective struggle teams are facing in navigating this once-in-a-lifetime NBA season.

As topsy turvy as the ending of the 2019-20 season was, the 22 teams that were invited to the Lake Buena Vista bubble on Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports campus all at least played on a level playing field.

The league put on a masterclass display of safety with the COVID-19 pandemic in the bubble, but by December, there was a collective shift to almost soldiering past the pandemic and playing on even if there are risks.

Thus, the 2020-21 season has seen a record number of cancellations, and most teams have been unable to establish chemistry…which has benefitted certain teams like the Utah Jazz, who mostly kept their core intact coming into the season.

Boston did not benefit, having added on several draft picks (Payton Pritchard, Aaron Nesmith) in the offseason, and integrating two veterans in key roles at the beginning of the season (Tristan Thompson, Jeff Teague).

With the Cs clearly sitting below the Eastern Conference elites (Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Milwaukee), it is clear that a move needs to be made before the Cs fall into the east’s middle of the pack mediocrity.

Boston isn’t a place where mediocrity flies though. If Danny Ainge isn’t going to shake up the roster in a profound way–such as a Kemba Walker trade or even exploring Marcus Smart’s value–he could explore adding a veteran to shore up the bench and bring professionalism to a young locker-room.

Fansided’s Ian Levy recently listed four feasible targets the Boston Celtics can add in a smaller-scale deal than the aforementioned blockbuster options. The piece included the likes of Al-Farouq Aminu, Trevor Ariza, P.J. Tucker, and Thaddeus Young, with Boston sending out popular HH trade assets Romeo Langford, Carsen Edwards, Aaron Nesmith, Tristan Thompson, and Jeff Teague in his mock trades.

What do you guys think of the aforementioned targets? Would you like to see Ainge get on the phone with the Magic, Thunder, Rockets, and Bulls to speak about these four forwards?
