After a thrilling victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in the TD Garden last night on national television, Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown had some highly complimentary superlatives to throw at his fellow All-Star teammate Jayson Tatum (who turns 23 today).
In a Twitter post, Brown called Tatum the “young goat”:
Happy birthday to the young goat 🐐 @jaytatum0

The teammates have been the foundation of the Cs winning record in the 2020-21 season. Of course, that winning record comes after a recent rough stretch that knocked Boston to two games below .500 and qualifying for the play-in game…as the team that would need to win consecutive games to even make it to the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Needless to say, it’s been a season of more downs than ups in the grand scheme for a team hoping to return to the Eastern Conference finals for the fourth time in five years, but yesterday’s win against the Clippers is a definite peak. Boston won the rebounding battle 43-35 and turned the ball over less than L.A.
The Clippers has been in the running for the #2 seed in the west (Utah is running away with the #1) but was knocked below the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers with the loss.
Brown and Tatum were secondary scorers last night, with Kemba Walker shining in an all-around gem of a performance (25 points, six assists, four rebounds) in what has been a revenge tour for the 2020 All-Star starter.
While some may see his recent stretch of 20+ points in five of his last six games as a reassertion of the former All-NBA point guard, the possibility of a deal looms as the Cs try to gain ground on the Eastern Conference’s top three teams (Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Milwaukee).
Any Boston Celtics success this season will be because of the Brown-Tatum pair, and it’s good to see that their bond is strong as guys who have already experienced a lot in the NBA together.
