Through 22 games, despite a myriad of injuries and COVID-19 related complications, the Boston Celtics have still managed to keep up the level of success fans have grown accustomed to over the years.

Boasting a 10-12 record, they rank in as the fourth-best team in the Eastern Conference standings, the ninth-best team in the association, and look to once again be on their way to having multiple All-Star selected players in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who have combined for a total of 1.4 million votes so far.

Now, while the majority of the attention has been on the aforementioned Jays and their level of play, lost in the buzz has been the play of Boston’s fourth-year big man, Daniel Theis.

Daniel Theis has played quite well for the Boston Celtics

After having perhaps one of the most under-the-radar campaigns from 2019-20, the German Hamer has managed to find himself having a nice follow up season as well.

Through 22 games, Theis is posting impressive averages of 9.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and just shy of a block per game on 60 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent shooting from deep (both career bests).

At first glance, these shooting splits are a pleasant sight to see for Boston Celtics fans, for last season the 28-year-old fell short of expectations with his shooting consistency, specifically from beyond the arc (shot just 33 percent after converting on 38 percent of his attempts in 2018-19).

As one delves a bit deeper into his shooting stroke, however, you’ll find that the big man ranks first in the league in 2-point field goal percentage, sixth in overall field goal percentage, and, within the top-50 this season in 3-point percentage — while this last fact doesn’t sound as impressive as the first two, it most certainly is something that should be commended.

With his role shifting from the C’s starting five to the four (both in and out of the lineup) Daniel Theis has managed to impress with his production early on in the season.

Because of this, we felt a light deserved to be shed on the man’s successes so far.
