Why the Boston Celtics do it

Again giving up Kemba Walker, the Boston Celtics would be assigning his point guard duties to Marcus Smart and Payton Pritchard (and possibly even Isaiah Thomas in a follow-up signing).

His offensive production would be replaced by two dynamite scorers and floor-spacers in Love and LaVine who would better allow Smart, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum to attack the basket.

Why the Cleveland Cavaliers do it

Lauri Markkanen is a taller, younger, version of Kevin Love from a triple threat position, though he doesn’t have quite the knack for rebounding as the 2008 lottery pick.

He would become a long-term building block in a starting five that included Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Isaac Okoro, and Jarrett Allen. That core could become a contender in a few years if things break right.

The addition of Romeo Langford would be a nice bonus, along with a second-round pick.

Why the Chicago Bulls do it

It is very possible that the damage from Jim Boylen’s coaching stint in Chi-Town could never undo the fractured relationship LaVine and Markkanen have with the franchise.

Billy Donovan could swap him with a fellow New York tri-state area professional in Kemba Walker. Larry Nance, who has improved his 3-point percentage to over 40%, could replace some of Markkanen’s production.

Finally, the two first-round picks from the Cs would set the team up in the future if Walker doesn’t bring much in the way of playoff success alongside the Patrick Williams-Wendell Carter Jr.-Otto Porter core.
