The Boston Celtics are currently the second-best team in the Eastern Conference with a record of 8-5.

Despite this, however, with the recently formulated big-3 of James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant in Brooklyn, it is the belief by us here at Hardwood Houdini that the Cs might want to consider making moves to help better bolster their roster to try and combat the firepower the Nets now possess.

Over the past several weeks, we have been discussing targets and specific trades Danny Ainge and co. may want to pursue to accomplish such a goal and, in doing so, we truly try to stay as realistic as possible in our writings.

Recently, NBA Analysis Network jumped into the mix of trying to concoct a trade to help strengthen Boston’s core but, frankly, bypassed the realm of realism and dove headfirst into the land of make-believe.

In an article posted this week, N.A.N proposed the idea of the Boston Celtics trading for All-Star point guard Trae Young.

The deal reads as follows:

The Boston Celtics landing Trae Young is nothing more than a fantasy

The 22-year-old is seen by the masses as one of the most promising young stars in the NBA today, alongside Luka Doncic, Zion Williamson, and, of course, Jayson Tatum.

Through 14 games played in 2020-21, Young is posting stellar averages of 24 points, nine assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game and has his Hawks slotted in the sixth seed in the east.

The idea of pairing him with the C’s forward is one that Boston fans would likely move earth and heaven to make happen. However, the only place people will see this duo don the green and white threads together at this stage in their careers is in NBA 2K.

We here at HH are all for concocting massive hypothetical trades, so long as it is at the VERY least somewhat realistic.

That said, proposing the concept of landing Trae Young — a man who has not once been linked to rumors of wanting out or having the franchise wanting him out — for a return package centered around Kemba Walker (no dis to Kemba) ain’t it.

Low key, one of the most ridiculous parts of this deal is the inclusion of the 2022 pick-swap, for, should the Hawks actually do this trade, they’d most certainly find themselves in possession of the more preferable selection in that draft.

A Boston big-3 of Trae Young, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown would rival virtually any other in the league — including Brooklyn’s — and would easily be seen as having one of the best odds to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals.

This trade would be absolutely amazing for the Boston Celtics.

Sadly, it would never happen.
