The Boston Celtics should throw their name into the mix for potential Taylen Horton-Tucker suiters. Here are 3 trade packages they should pursue.

Tuesday’s news cycle brought a very interesting scenario to the forefront of the NBA universe: the idea of Los Angeles Lakers utility man getting a bigger role elsewhere. Anyone who knows me should understand that that news could involve the Boston Celtics with a few small things happening between now and the trade deadline.

Before my mind truly wanders about the idea of adding the former Iowa State Cyclones star, this is what the news cycle offered, via RealGM:

"Talen Horton-Tucker is expected to receive interest from “multiple teams” in free agency with the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks specifically mentioned. The Lakers can give Horton-Tucker a contract starting around $10.5 million while rival teams will be limited by the mid-level exception starting at approximately $9 million. A quirk in the cap, however, can allow for a third-year balloon payment worth as much as the maximum salary with a raise in the fourth. A rival team could pay Horton-Tucker $9 million in the first year, $10 million in the second year then jump to more than $32 million in the third year and $32 million in the fourth. The Lakers could match the deal."

Seeing him be mentioned in the same breath as the Knicks and Cavaliers makes sense, because who can’t see those teams throwing an unreasonable poison pill offer to Horton-Tucker to prevent the Lakers from retaining what could end up being a 2x reigning champion roster?

But Dallas’ interest tells me Horton-Tucker could be a diamond in the rough.
