Jamal Crawford wants in on expanded rosters given the Boston Celtics’ COVID-19 health and safety protocols-related absences that forced two game cancellations.

If it were up to Jamal Crawford, the Boston Celtics would have the option to sign the 40-year-old combo guard after Adrian Wojnarowski announced another game cancellation for the Cs:

Crawford may not have directly advocated to wear green and white–I’m sure he’d take any opportunity that came his way at this point–but it is clear that there is a contingent of players that want the games to go on no matter what.

The general consensus on NBA Twitter, at least among journalists, is the opposite. While many may see playing games as the absolute safest thing to do, players are the ones that ultimately decide that.

For players like Crawford, the chance to return to the NBA is not one that will last forever. While the pandemic would put the NBA on hold, life still goes on, and Crawford would be another year removed from his prime by the time the season rolls around again.

As the United States rolls out the vaccine for the Coronavirus, other sports are conducting events, some of which include fans in the stands. The NCAA is staging the 2021 National Championship game tonight, and the college hoops season is figuring it out on the fly.

If the NBA can safely pull this off, they should be given the chance to without judgement from the public. If people die and are affected in a negative way by games being played, you obviously pull the plug.

Either way, the Boston Celtics need to figure out how to get healthy guys in uniform if the season continues as planned.
