In one of the most embarrassing days in the history of this country, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum summed up what we were all thinking in a simple tweet.

“Damn shame.” Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum used his platform as a professional athlete–a standard we don’t hold politicians to for some twisted reason–to speak for thousands of people that might not have the energy to say a thing on this sad day.

Quote-tweeting a photo of what the American capital city looked like the day of a Black Lives Matter protest, Tatum acknowledged the gross double standard that exists in this country when it relates to protesting:

Someone was shot today (as of right now it is one person) because radicals felt the need to commit acts of terrorism in the Capitol building, literally breaking windows and storming congress while the house was in session.

Instead, let’s take a moment and realize that every day, athletes are criticized for the things they do off the court, field, rink, ring, or even octagon. Far too often, it is about something that half the country doesn’t understand ie. why athletes kneel during the anthem or stay in the locker room altogether.

These are misunderstandings.

Today, it is easy to understand what happened here. A politician, if we even want to call him that, rallied people together to cause chaos. This is not a nation of chaos.

We must move forward today thinking about men like Tatum, who would never get the chance to act in such a traitorous way that was displayed today.

I hope we can move on from this, but this is a deep wound that may take an indefinite amount of time to heal.
