Boston Celtics: 3 Daniel Theis trades to improve bench when Kemba returns
Why the Boston Celtics do it
Every season, the New York Knicks will assign veteran role players with no long-term future with the team the starring role under the bright lights on Broadway. In 2017-18, Jarrett Jack and Ramon Sessions were the floor generals. Marcus Morris averaged close to 20 points per game before being moved to the Los Angeles Clippers last season and Reggie Bullock is still in a featured role after he was given less money in the 2019 offseason after appearing out of shape for his team physical…and somehow recovered to claim a starting spot in the Knicks lineup.
This year, Alec Burks was assigned the role after signing a one-year deal. He has responded with 20 points per game on an unreal 53/67/90 slash line, building prospects for his next deal as the Knicks fail to develop their recent draft picks.
When the Knicks wise up later this year and flip him for value, the Cs should be a legitimate option.
Why the New York Knicks do it
Alec Burks could have as much of a future in the Mecca as Daniel Theis will end up having if he were ever traded there under these circumstances. That is to say, both guys could see their seasons end in Boston…and see their seasons start somewhere else.
Might as well get a draft pick while you’re at it, right?
